Art exhibition inspired by 60 years of Exmoor National Park

Mark O'Brien - PaintingMore than 30 artists have contributed works to an exhibition of art inspired by the 60th anniversary of Exmoor National Park.

The exhibition, at the Loughrigg Gallery in South Molton, is the brainchild of owner Michael O’Brien who says: “The gallery often features images of Exmoor in one form or another amongst the other works so I thought in this special year it would be an opportunity to invite local artists to contribute something featuring the National Park’s fantastic landscape.

“I’m pleased to say that there has been an enthusiastic response and we have some wonderful pieces on display including sculptures, oil, water colours, pastels, and photography.”

The exhibition runs from 1 – 31 July, entry is free and all the artwork will be for sale – 5% of the proceeds will be donated to CareMoor for Exmoor, the Exmoor National Park environment support fund.

Commenting on the initiative Andrea Davis, Chairman of Exmoor National Park, said: ”We are very grateful to Mike for setting up the exhibition which will showcase our wonderful area and I am looking forward to having a look around it myself.”

The Loughrigg Gallery from Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.

Exmoor Memories in Watercolours

Yesterday we received this message from Andrea Newton Wesselius on our Facebook page:
Hi, I am from the Netherlands but lived in London for four years in the mid to late eighties.
On one of their visits to the UK I took my parents to stay at a cottage in Porlock Weir. Both my parents were artists and always making sketches wherever they went. Based on their scribbles, sketches and photos my dad made a gouache painting of Bossington Hill and some watercolours of the Porlock Weir harbour. I realize they are not completely true to reality, but perhaps they are of interest to you, in which case feel free to show them to the facebook group. Both my parents have passed away in the last three years, and as I am particularly attached to these works they are not for sale, but really just in case you were interested….
These were made by my dad, Jacques Wesselius (1931-2012)
This is a link to his website, in case people want to see what else he did in watercolour.

I’m working on a new website on which I can show all his work (oils, acrylics as well as watercolour) as well as all of the work my mum (Jeanne Wesselius) made.

Best,
Andrea

The Priestway

202 David Jessup Priest Way

Dunkery and The Horner Valley from The Priestway by local artist David Jessup.

The Priestway is an ancient track leading to the tiny isolated church of St. Pero. At 1100 ft the highest church on Exmoor. Painted in April when the fresh green of the silver birches contrasts vividly with the bronzed remains of autumn. The original is sold, but Giclée prints are available from the Exmoor Producers Association Shop in Minehead

Paintings of Exmoor

Bert Bruins is a local artist who captures the spirit of Exmoor in his paintings.

Bert Bruins Since starting painting in oils at the age of 13 I have experimented with many styles and media.  I attempt to show the intense beauty of our world, sometimes in abstract, in close up, and in landscape. Brought up in the Netherlands, but resident in England since 1990, I have developed a love for the British landscape tradition, in particular the Scottish colourists and the “railway poster” artists of the 1930s. Some of my other interests (architecture, lino-print) get a look-in also. Please note that latest works are to be found at the end of each gallery.

Exhibition spaces change frequently, but amongst other places where you can see my work are the Tavistock Art Gallery at 17 Duke Street, Tavistock, the Salar Gallery in Tavistock and the West Gallery at West Putford, Holsworthy, all in Devon.
I am currently exhibiting at The Flying Pickle in Gold Street, Tiverton and at The Real Food Cafe in Paris Street, Exeter
