Morning hike on Exmoor

“Beautiful hike this morning, starting at Ashcombe carpark Simonsbath, just up from the Exmoor Forest Inn, heading up through Birchcleave Woods the highest Beech woodland in England and in my opinion some of the finest ancient Beech trees on Exmoor, heading on up to Picked Stones we got ambushed by 40+ young frisky, fearless / inquisitive and healthiest cattle around. Belle was terrified so I let her go, still laughing, she did the 400 metres to safety in world record time, dropped down to Cow Castle and back up the Barle, the smell of the rain after the dry spell was something else.. Belle will be having nightmares of 40 tons of beef chasing her 😄 the last pic was at the other side of the massive field 😄”

Early Morning at the Valley of Rocks

“Early start yesterday morning from Caffyns Farm perched high above Lee Abbey and Valley of Rocks, dropping 800ft down to Lee Bay and Abbey and then heading east through the Valley of Rocks, past the White Lady and Mother Meldrum’s cave / Castle Rock.. Arrived in the beautiful and still sleeping Lynton for an early breakfast.. and then back in reverse for a much needed bbq and🍷”

An early start at Simonsbath

“An early start at a chilly Simonsbath yesterday morning, being 1,250ft above sea level it often feels the brunt of the Exmoor winter. Heading down the Barle Valley, north to south towards Withypool and Tarr Steps, it has to be one of the prettiest river / valley trails in Britain, passing the ruins of Wheal Eliza mine / cottage, Cow Castle and on to the late medieval picturesque Landacre Bridge which spans the Barle, the vivid mosses and wildlife certainly helped on this dark winters morning, as usual Belle will lead the way oblivious to the nippy winds. ( I would recommend wearing welly boots for this section at the moment).”
