After 50 odd days of rain sunshine and blue skies made a rare (and short) appearance on Exmoor in early March. Local photographer Adrian Campbell has been out and about. These are the photos he shared with us:

“Beautiful hike this morning, starting at Ashcombe carpark Simonsbath, just up from the Exmoor Forest Inn, heading up through Birchcleave Woods the highest Beech woodland in England and in my opinion some of the finest ancient Beech trees on Exmoor, heading on up to Picked Stones we got ambushed by 40+ young frisky, fearless / inquisitive and healthiest cattle around. Belle was terrified so I let her go, still laughing, she did the 400 metres to safety in world record time, dropped down to Cow Castle and back up the Barle, the smell of the rain after the dry spell was something else.. Belle will be having nightmares of 40 tons of beef chasing her 😄 the last pic was at the other side of the massive field 😄”

The Bluebell is the sweetest flower
That waves in summer air:
Its blossoms have the mightiest power
To soothe my spirit’s care.

Exmoor at its best today -complete with some snow! A 48 mile trip with solitude, wilderness and views to feed the soul!
Jane Taylor, 11 April 2021 via Facebook.what’s not to love! Barnstaple to Brayford to Simonsbath, to Exford to Withypool, to Five Cross Way to Bratton Fleming & back home. PS thanks to the lovely fellow cyclist at the top to the moor above Withypool who gave me a lovely route back! Hope you enjoyed your ride…who knows you may be on this site! You have some beautiful rides on your Exford doorstep
