“An early start at a chilly Simonsbath yesterday morning, being 1,250ft above sea level it often feels the brunt of the Exmoor winter. Heading down the Barle Valley, north to south towards Withypool and Tarr Steps, it has to be one of the prettiest river / valley trails in Britain, passing the ruins of Wheal Eliza mine / cottage, Cow Castle and on to the late medieval picturesque Landacre Bridge which spans the Barle, the vivid mosses and wildlife certainly helped on this dark winters morning, as usual Belle will lead the way oblivious to the nippy winds. ( I would recommend wearing welly boots for this section at the moment).”
